Applicants with a Bachelor’s of Social Work (BSW) are automatically considered for Advanced Standing. Advanced Standing students receive up to 24 credits toward the MSSA degree and can complete the MSSA program in just 36 credit hours. Your BSW must have been earned within the last seven years from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited institution with grades of B or better in all social-work-related courses. As an Advanced Standing applicant, you will be asked in the essay portion of the application to provide a description of your field education, including roles, responsibilities, and key learning objectives.

Criteria for admission to the Social Work Major are:1. Academic achievement that includes:a) Completion of a substantial portion (approximately 50 credit hours) of the Nyack College core curriculum and most prerequisites.b) A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.2. Submission of departmental application3. Emotional stability to deal with emotional stress in himself/herself as well as in others.4. Intellectual capacity to think conceptually and analytically.5. Physical health and vigor that provide energy to handle a rigorous academic schedule and field practicum.
