Rice University has a 22% admittance rate. As such, admission to the premier university is quite competitive. Rice admits outstanding students and leaders who envision new possibilities and leave positive imprints in the world.

Rice cites a prospective student’s academic record as very important; GPA, the rigor of the secondary school record, class rank, and standardized test scores are given the most weight during the admissions process. Extracurricular activities, recommendations, talent, personal qualities, and application essay are also very important. Rice is interested in the student’s level of interest in the university. Admissions officials further consider a candidate's alumni relation, geographical residence, interview, racial status, volunteer and work experience, and whether a student is a first-generation college student.
